BaySystems™ and Energywise Group announce energywise™ Preferred Contractors for Dallas/Ft. Worth

Preferred contractors use BaySystems™ spray polyurethane foam insulation

October 27, 2009

Pittsburgh, October 27, 2009 — BaySystems™ and Energywise Group, a sales agency of Bayer MaterialScience LLC, have appointed four Dallas/Ft. Worth spray polyurethane foam applicators as energywise™ Preferred Contractors. In order to be an energywise™ Preferred Contractor, applicators must have a commitment to the energywise™ program as well as an established, solid business in the market and recognition in their community.

The energywise™ program uses a "total systems" approach to residential insulation applications. It was developed through collaboration among the spray foam insulation business of BaySystems™, which is the global polyurethane systems business of Bayer MaterialScience; Energywise Structures, and Energywise Group. Energywise Structures is a professional engineering firm specializing in energy efficiency solutions. The BaySystems™ spray foam insulation business includes the Bayseal™ polyurethane foam insulation product family.

The preferred contractors are Korbin Foam Insulation, Franklin's Foam Insulation, Biomax Spray Foam and Thermacote Systems. The companies were chosen based on their business practices, practical experience, and building science knowledge.

The energywise™ systems approach involves engineering the heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems, plus doors, windows, insulation and air infiltration to work in harmony with the thermal envelope — the outer walls of a structure — and local climate conditions. Using proprietary software to create a detailed energy analysis report from each building plan, the energywise™ program accurately projects the annual heating and cooling consumption, comparative savings, and optimal heating and cooling system sizing.

"We are proud that these four Preferred Contractors serving the Dallas/Ft. Worth market are committed to using the energywise™ system," said Renee Zierden, general manager, BaySystems™. "The energywise™ approach is an energy-efficient alternative to basic fiberglass or cellulose residential insulation, and these Dallas/Ft. Worth Preferred Contractors will educate area builders, architects and planners about the many benefits of spray polyurethane foam insulation."

Spray polyurethane foam offers several advantages over traditional fiberglass batt insulation, including:

  • Ability to expand and fill all cracks when applied, thereby virtually sealing a home from moisture and air leakage.
  • Ability to cure within seconds, forming the foundation of a structurally strong, virtually airtight, thermal, sound, and condensation barrier.
  • Adding structural strength to the building. Independent tests showed spray polyurethane foam provides resistance to shearing and racking events such as hurricanes and other strong wind situations.
  • Reducing the chance of mold growth.
"Energywise is promoting a spirit of teamwork among our Preferred Contractors," said Nick Zindel, Energywise Group. "Consumers in the Dallas/Ft. Worth region can rest assured that by selecting one of the energywise™ Preferred Contractors, they are choosing a professional with superior building science knowledge and expertise about how homeowners can earn the tax credit available for energy efficient new homes and home repairs."

Through Energywise Structures' energy analysis and HVAC load calculations, Dallas/Ft. Worth preferred contractors can provide a Bayer guarantee on a structure's heating and cooling costs for two years.
